Gout Foods – The Gout Diet You Need to Follow

Friday, October 16th, 2009

We will not only present natural gout cures but also the lifestyle to avoid gout attacks as much as possible. This post will discuss the Gout diet you need to follow to avoid gout as much as possible. We know that foods that are high in protein like red meat can certainly lead to more uric acid production in the body, therefore to possible gout attack.

Based on medical findings and experience, the following is a list of foods that are regarded by top nutritionists as safe for gout:

* the majority of vegetables

* strawberries

* avocados

* cereals except whole wheat

* kiwi fruit

* oranges

* mangoes

* high-fiber foods

* cherries

It has been suggested that using tofu from soybeans can be substituted to meat. A balanced diet for gout sufferers is comprised of foods that are high in complex carbohydrates, low in protein, and low in fat.

Just remember that weight is an important factor in determining whether or not you will develop Gout over the long run. While weight loss is an effective treatment for Gout, it must be done gradually and not through crash diets. Losing weight too quickly can cause higher amounts of uric acid to form in the body. This can lead to painful gout attacks.

In the end, adopting a diet high in grains, vegetables, and fruits is the best way to lose weight. These foods are generally low in purine as well.

Natural Gout Cures: Hyperuricemia

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

We are in search for natural gout cures. In looking for the cure for gout, we check out what is happening in our body that leads to this painful experience before we can find the cure.

Gout occurs when a condition called Hyperuricemia happens. Hyperuricemia is caused by the build up in the blood of uric acid. Don’t get me wrong but uric acid is actually a helpful antioxidant. But too much of a good thing is not always good for you.

In normal cases, uric acid levels are controlled as the body gets rid of excess
uric acid through the urine. Unfortunately, this process of uric acid control breaks down in some people…thus,  the uric acid builds up faster than the body can use.

With nowhere to go, the body looks for ways to get rid
of the excessive uric acid in bloodstream. the body deposits the excess uric acid in the form of crystals in the joints…that leads to the gout which usually starts with the big toe.

What causes Hyperuricemia? Hyperuricemia is caused by a diet with foods that have high levels of purine. Foods high in purine are the typical “Western” diet. These foods are mostly proteins especially animal proteins.

There are other causes of Hyperuricemia as well. The body may have this natural  struggle to process uric acid.

Why does Gout hurt so much?

When uric acid crystals are deposited in the joints of our body, they are
treated as an invading substance in the body. The immune system alerts itself by attacking these crystal deposits. This causes the swelling, redness, throbbing, and pain with the gout attack.

Interestingly, the joints are not the only body part where a
build up of uric acid can take place. In some cases, the overproduction of uric acid can lead to uric acid kidney stones formation. Furthermore, repeated and untreated Gout attacks can possibly lead to bone and tissue damage.
